Starting your style guides (May 13 - May 20)
Starting your style guides
This week you will be bringing the HTML pieces of the P1: Process style guide and initial branding ideas to our class. We are aware that we did not complete the HTML tutorial, so we will be flexible with the HTML components. If you are already familiar with HTML, please progress to the best of your knowledge.
Still, please bring the following in whatever format you see fit (we will make an exception to the design software rule for this week):
- A written description of the product or service
- Colour palettes and fonts
- Potential imagery and/or art direction
A couple reminders:
- Weekly project deliverables are brought to the class time for critique. You do not need to submit them to Canvas weekly.
- The exercises are submitted to Canvas by 10:00am the morning-of lecture.
- You may reuse your exercise materials in your project deliverables if useful (up to you).
Required software for lecture
Please install and have ready Cyberduck on your computer. This is the FTP client we will be using for this class. We will have a tutorial on how to setup your SFU filespace during the lecture.
Critique sign-up
If you would like critique on your work you will need to arrive by the start of your lab to sign up for a timeslot. Please have your materials ready-to-go for critique as if critique will be at the start of your assigned lab.
Office hours
Our weekly office hours are now available. Please email Alfredo, email Matthew or message over the course chat to let us know you will be attending office hours.
Alfredo
- Fridays from 3:00 - 4:00pm online via Zoom (linked through Canvas).
Matthew
Fridays from 4:30 - 5:30pm online via Zoom (linked through Canvas).
Available reading reflections
Reminder: If you filled and submitted a hand-out to your TA for the first reading reflection, you must also submit the Digital PDF of the reading with higlights through Canvas. This upload is due by the end of your lab. If you did not give your TA the printed hand-out by the end of your lab, you are no longer able to submit the first reading reflection.
The following weeks (and readings) are all the reading reflection options:
- May 13 — "What a Year of Learning and Teaching Accessibility Taught Me"
- June 10 — "User Bias (Chapter 2)" from Design for Cognitive Bias
- June 24 — "Dyslexic Myths Presented as Truths"
- July 15 — "A Designer's Code of Ethics"
If you are interested in completing a reading reflection you will need to be in person on lecture and lab on the days listed above.
Questions or concerns?
Of course should you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to email Alfredo, email Matthew or message over the course chat and we will respond as quickly as possible.
